Adolescent Executive Function Curriculum

The success of the BBT program with preschool children has prompted us to explore if adolescents, who are undergoing a similar period of significant brain changes, would benefit from age-appropriate playful activities aimed at enhancing the development of executive functions. Executive functions (EF) are the mental abilities that allow us to effectively use attention, working memory, inhibitory control, and regulate emotions. If we can improve the development of EF in adolescents by improving brain plasticity and resilience through play, we can then promote optimal outcomes for individuals later in life.

We are now testing our curriculum at Juniour High and Middle Schools in Alberta. In keeping with our commitment to educate and empower adults, we are working to provide educators and caregivers with evidence-based resources that will support EF and brain development in adolescents in order to improve health, academic, and career outcomes.
